The winter season was the only sports season that was unable to participate last year. With the return of basketball, wrestling, indoor track, and winter cheer, the athletes are anxious for the season to start.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abby Uhl, who plays for the girl\u2019s Varsity Basketball team, said, \u201cI was really upset that we weren\u2019t able to have our season last year but I\u2019m excited that we are allowed to have it this year and I\u2019m hoping that the break hasn\u2019t messed anything up for our upcoming season.\u201d Some athletes have become concerned because they haven&#8217;t played with their teammates in over a year. However, the excitement for the return exceeds any worries. Uhl goes on to further explain \u201cAt the beginning of this year I haven&#8217;t been playing a sport and I have felt very out of the school spirit, now I\u2019m excited to be a part of a team where we can work hard\u201d. Uhl was among many student-athletes who felt at a loss for not having an opportunity to play. Senior indoor track state champion, Ara Omitowoju says, \u201cHonestly, I was sad because I really like our relay and usually we are set to go to states or nationals, so it was very sad to miss it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For many upperclassmen, the loss of the winter season negatively impacted&nbsp; their recruitment process. It was a crucial season for many and difficult to continue their college process without highlights and playing time. There was also no opportunity to make counties or state titles that for many teams was their overarching season goal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are hopeful for another shot at state titles, like Ara who is \u201cexcited because we are supposed to be fast this year and hopefully get some state champs and go to nationals and drop some PR\u2019s.\u201d The River Hill winter athletes are full of motivation this year and are looking forward to tryouts on November 15th.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Katie Bena and Eden Barnes, staff writers It has been two years since any winter sports team has had the opportunity to play due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
