On February 3, 2025, the Class of 2025 SGA started a fundraiser to sell roses to people in the school near the cafeteria. The fundraiser was created to bring people together and raise awareness of the love we give to other people, raising funds for a meaningful cause, and spreading joy within the River Hill community.
This fundraiser was organized by the Class of 2025, and some freshmen helped out with buying the roses. Akhil Gurram, a senior, is one of the people who organized this fundraiser to sell roses. The fundraiser has been going on for nearly 2 years. Akhil says, “We did this last year and this is a continuation from last year and other schools have been doing the same thing like selling candy or other items.”
Every February the seniors start this sale and sell roses for the upcoming holiday, Valentine’s Day. Akhil further explains that the roses are a way to show affection to people in the school and how we can show we care by selling roses to people in our community. Akhil indicates that “we do this sale for fun, to be profitable, and to make people smile when they receive a rose.”
Purchasing a rose costs $3 for 1, $5 for 2 roses, and $10 for 5 roses. Overall, this fantastic fundraiser created by the class of 2025 shows the amount of care the students at River Hill have towards people.
Junior Sunny Tain comments on how “we enjoy selling roses to the teachers and students especially when they have a valentine and they want to give something heartwarming.”
Additionally, the Class of 2025 placed flyers around the school to gain attention from people. Akhil also says, “We tell people on the morning announcements about the sale and we place flyers in each hall around the school so people can know about the fundraiser we’re doing.” To the people that the class of 2025 is selling the roses to, not only are they selling the roses to the school but some of the students have gotten some of the roses and sold them to their communities and neighbors.
For the seniors, this was a very profitable business, and they made $500 from doing this business in 3 days. If you’re looking to buy a rose for your fellow valentine this is the spot to get a rose and give it to your couple.
Hopefully, in the long run, their business stay sintact and other students take up the opportunity to sell roses. However, since these roses are being sold at a limited time the rising seniors should plan accordingly to get as many roses sold as possible. So, if you want a rose, come near the cafeteria and pick one up.
